Research Paper Introduction Paragraph

Stephanie Waddell Professor JoAnn Harris English Comp I 8 November 20   How would the implementation of Universal Basic Income affect the US? What a year 2020 has been! From Trump’s impeachment trial and acquittal, the COVID-19 pandemic, mass unemployment due to stay at home orders, Congress passing the CARES Act, and the election. The CARES Act gave citizens a $1200 stimulus payment and supplemented unemployment payments with an additional $600 a week payment for a few months. 2020 Democratic presidential primary candidate, Andrew Yang proposed the” Freedom Dividend”, a $1000 per month payment to all citizens 18 and up. Universal Basic Income would “level the playing field” for all citizens by paying a monthly cash payment. Universal Basic Income is my topic of choice. I have found out all sorts of information out on this subject. I believe the concept is a great idea.   It has a lot of opposition. It is not even about political party affiliation. Proponents for this idea believe it would help get so many people out of poverty and give them the opportunity for more education and to take care of their families. They also believe it would help stimulate the economy. Opponents of this idea believe that it would bankrupt the country. They also believe that it would make people not want to work at all; and that some would spend it on all the wrong things. UBI is a system being looked at by countries all over the world. I, along with many others, believe UBI is what the people need.
