Economics Pros / Cons Universal Basic Income Universal Basic Income How will implementing UBI affect the already existing social services in our country? Income in our country would “level the playing field” for all citizens by paying everyone a specified amount monthly. Citizens that are considered at or below the poverty line would be affected by the implementation of UBI.  Funding in the country’s budget for social services would be taken away to fund UBI. Alternate but a related idea – Alternative to UBI – alternative such as paying for college / Universal Healthcare.     I chose the topic of Universal Basic Income. It is a very hot topic in the US election. There are many  proponents and opponents for this idea. LYING? TELLING THE TRUTH? What is Social Media doing?

  I woke up this morning at 5 AM. Guess what the first thing I did was. Snooze my alarm! Ok, the second thing I did was look at my phone. I checked for new texts, news alerts, and to see what went on in the world while I was asleep last night. So many of us rely on our phones for socializing, working, entertainment, school, and the list goes on and on. Social media and websites all readily available to view, read, and scroll to our heart's content. Scrolling through social media for news has become the norm. Almost 20 % of US adults get political news from social media. The Pew Research Center surveyed Oct.29- Nov.11 which shows, "Americans who mainly get their news on social media are less engaged, less knowledgeable." Is all of this news real or is it "fake news"? Have you read any of the "facts" that the president has posted on his social media? Or have you read the conspiracy theory about the COVID 19 pandemic on social media? Less

Your Brain on Music

                                        The song "Stand By Me" brings a feel-good vibe. Listening to it not only makes me feel good, but it also makes me think the world isn't such a bad place and that if we all can help each other out then the world will be a better place. All the that came from listening to a song? The music has triggered Dopamine in my brain. What is Dopamine? It is neurochemical that our brains release when we do things such as eat food, have sex, and listen to music. The chemical makes us feel pleasure and satisfaction when we do these things. It boosts our mood; it motivates us; it grabs our attention;, and helps us to regulate our movements, learning, and emotions. The song and video "Stand By Me" shows the viewer/listener the musicians and their audiences' enjoyment from creating and listening to the song. Dopamine is definitely at work here. The chemical is bringing everyone happy feelings. It makes them curious about the song and
